Indian Panorama Opens with Screening of ‘The Last Adieu’ and ‘Elizabeth Ekadashi’

Indian Panorama 2014 opened here with the screening of Non-Feature Film ‘The Last Adieu’ and Feature Film‘Elizabeth Ekadashi’. The opening unfolded with Chief Guest actor Manoj Bajpai along with Festival Director, Shankar Mohan felicitating the jury of both Non-Feature Film and Feature Film sections. 
Those felicitated included Non-Feature Films jury Abhiram Bhadkamkar, Babu Kambrath, OinamDoren, R. Buvana, Shila Datta and Vivek Mohan. The jury of Feature Films includes A.K. Bir (Chairman), Satarupa Sanyal, Vinod Ganatra, Ganga Raju Gunnam, Utpal Borpujari, Oinam Gautam Singh, Gautaman Bhaskaran, Sameer Hanchate. 
The Chairman of Non-Feature Film section Mike Pandeyand members of Feature Film section A.S. Kanal, Advaita Kala, Archana, K.N.T. Sastry and M.C. Raja Narayanancould not make to the occasion. 
Cast and crew of both the films were introduced to the audience and felicitated by the Chief Guest. 
Then‘The Last Adieu’ directed by ShabnamSukhdevand‘Elizabeth Ekadashi’ directed by PareshMokashiwere screened back to back. 
The Indian Panorama section of 45th IFFI will showcase 26 feature and 15 non-feature films. 
Earlier, the Director Festival welcomed the Chief Guest.

Shri Arun Jaitley, Union Minister of Finance, Corporate Affairs, and Information & Broadcasting has said that the Indian Film industry had come of age in view of the diversity it offered as regards the number of films produced in different languages and themes. Cinema today acted as the alternate religion as it entertained, educated, gave a social perspective to issues, offered young growing minds the vision to learn and nurture talent. #IFFI2014 Opening Film: “The President” by Mohsen Makhmalbaf (Iran)


45th IFFI offers platform to Student Film Makers 
The 45th edition of IFFI offers 23 films by outstanding student films from the four premier film institutions of the country. The future generation of Indian filmmakers has a very distinct and new voice. They are full of original stories and narratives. IFFI has taken the responsibility to give student filmmakers the right platform to present their short/student films 


The four film institutions are Film and Television Institute of India, Pune (FTII), Satyajit Ray of Film and Television Institute of India, Kolkata (SRFTII), MGR Film and Television Institute, Chennai (MGRGFTI), and AJK MCRC, Jamia Millia Islamia University, Delhi. These promising films will spotlight the emerging Indian talents in cinema through their diploma films.

45TH IFFI opens window on South Asian Cinema 
Neighbours being the part of India’s greater vision, the 45th edition of IFFI offers a collection of ideas across member nations of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). Keeping this in view, IFFI has initiated another section exclusively for the South Asian region, showcasing one outstanding film from each of the eight SAARC nations. 


The bouquet of South Asian films include ‘Daughter (Dukhtar)’ from Pakistan, ‘A Few Cubic Meters of Love’ from Afghanistan, ‘Finger (Ingli)’ from Maldives, ‘The Fort (Killa)’ from India, ‘Jalal’s Story (Jalaler Golpo)’ from Bangladesh, ‘Pattern of Love (Kushuthara)’ from Bhutan, ‘Refusing Heaven (Jhola)’ from Nepal and ‘The Singing Pond (Ho Gaanaa Pokuna)’ from Sri Lanka.

45th IFFI focuses on Tales of Women from North East
The 45th International Film Festival of India is focusing on North east cinema. IFFI initiated a special section on the cinemas of the North east of India in its last edition. A special section ‘A view from the North –East’ this year is highlighting the films which put the spotlight on women centric stories. As in real life in north–east, women power is reflected in the screen too. These few cinematic samples from this multi- ethnic region provide a glimpse to this fact.

China in focus at 45th IFFI 

China will be the country in focus at the 45th International Film Festival in Goa. A variety of films will be showcased. The films in this section are ‘American Dreams in China’, ‘Beijing Blues’, ‘ Caught In The Web’, ‘Christmas Rose’, ‘Feng Shui’, ‘Finding Mr. Right’, ‘‘The Great Hypnotist’, ‘Out Of Inferno’ and ‘Silent Witness’. 

Other categories include ‘Genuine Love’ (INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION) and ‘The Grandmaster ‘(CLOSING FILM).

45TH IFFI salutes Wong Kar-Wai with Lifetime Achievement Award

One of the Hong Kong’s most celebrated filmmakers Wong Kar-Wai will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 45th edition of IFFI. Internationally renowned as an auteur for his visually unique, highly stylised, emotionally resonant work, including Days of Being Wild (1990), Ashes of Time (1994), Chungking Express (1994), Fallen Angels (1995), Happy Together (1997), 2046 (2004) and The Grandmaster (2013).My Blue berry Nights is Wong Kar-Wai’s only English language Film and In the mood for love is by far his most universally loved film. In 1988, he debuted as a director with As Tears Go By. In 1997 he won the best director Award for Happy Together at the Cannes Film Festival. 

Born in Shanghai in 1958, he moved to HongKong in 1963. He studied graphic design in Hong Kong polytechnic until 1980 and subsequently worked as a production assistant and assistant director for TV. Between 1982 and 1987, he also wrote screenplays for director Patrik Tam.

International Jury of the 45th IFFI 
The international jury of the 45th edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) comprises celebrated film personalities from all over the world. The jury chairman Slawomir Idziak from Poland is a noted cinematographer, screenwriter, director and lecturer. The other members include Zhang Jianya, a filmmaker from China, Marie Brenner, a New York based writer, Seema Biswas, Actress from Assam and Nadia Dresti, the head of International Locarno Film Festival. 
Slawomir Idziak has worked with cinema legends such as Krzysztof Kieslowski, Andrzej Wajda and Krzysztof Zanussi. He has received a number of awards and distinctions in Berlin, Venice, Prague, Auckland and Gdynia. He was also nominated for BAFTA cesar and Oscar awards. 
Zhang Jianya’s work includes Red Elephant, Kidnap of Carajan, The Hero, Red Snow, The Dream is Alive. Because of his outstanding achievements, Zhang was named one of the most important representatives of China’s fifth generation directors. 
Marie Brenner has published 5 books, including ‘Great Dames: What I Learned from Older Women’, House of Dreams and The Bingham Family of Louisville. Her expose of the tobacco industry “The Man Who Knew Too Much”, was basis for the 1999 movie The Insider, which was nominated for seven Academy Awards. 
Seema Biswas Actress from Assam won the 1996 national Film Award for Best Actress for her role in Bandit Queen. Biswas won Canada’s Genie Award for her role as the widow Shakuntala in Deepa Mehta’s Water (2005). 
Nadia Dresti the other member of International Jury is specialist of film promotion, public and press relations.
