President of India’s message on the Occasion of the Ninth Statistics Day

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee has issued a message to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on the occasion of the 9th Statistics Day which falls on June 29, 2015. The Statistics Day commemorates the birth anniversary of late Prof. P. C. Mahalanobis. The message reads:

“I am happy to learn that the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is celebrating the 9th Statistics Day on June 29, 2015 commemorating the birth anniversary of Late Prof. P. C. Mahalanobis.

An informed decision making system based on robust statistics on social sectors like health, education, poverty, employment, social backwardness, housing and environment, will pave the way for holistic development of India. The theme “Social Development” chosen for this year’s Statistics Day is appropriate in the current scenario. Let us on this day, draw inspiration from the life and career of Prof. Mahalanobis whose excellence has influenced many to adopt statistical techniques in various subjects.

I congratulate the statistical fraternity of India and wish the Statistics Day every success.”
