MyIndia Initiative- Digital Volunteer Programme

The Concept: The Digital Volunteer Programme is aimed at people who are keen to use their personal social presence on different  social media platforms to talk about Government schemes and programmes. Deeply rooted in the ideals of Participative Governance, the programme aims at helping the Government of India achieve a real time engagement with people leading to a personalized interaction with the target groups.

You may associate with this Initiative if you:
1.Have an active Twitter and Facebook account
2.Are Proficient in using social media group collaboration tools like Tweetdeck, Hootsuite etc.
3.Have an active and regularly checked email account
4.Access to a Computer/Smartphone with Internet
5.Are willing to use your personal social presence to help Government spread a word about its policies and programmes

To facilitate a personalised interaction, a Digital Volunteer
1. may like to talk  about Government Initiatives by retweeting the  messages tweeted  by MIB's Twitter Handle @MIB_India
2. may share  Ministry's Tweets (@MIB_India), Facebook Posts  (facebook.com/inbministry),  Blog posts (inbministry.blogspot.in)  and share YouTube Channel videos(youtube.com/user/inbministry) on Social Networking sites
3. may mention Official Twitter handle of MIB @MIB_India in tweets to facilitate real time engagement.
4. may suggest ways to reach out to people on social media

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting acknowledges the role of its digital volunteers in enhancing the reach of its developmental messages.

  8. Afzal Guru, convicted in the audacious attack on Parliament in 2001, was on Saturday hanged in Tihar Jail, in an operation shrouded in secrecy.

“Afzal Guru was hanged at 8 a.m.,” Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said shortly after the execution of the Jaish-e-Mohammad militant.

The mercy plea of the 43-year-old Guru, who was sentenced to death in 2002 by a special court and later upheld by the Supreme Court in 2004, was rejected by President Pranab Mukherjee a few days back, Rashtrapati Bhavan spokespeman Venu Rajamony said.

Reminiscent of the hanging of Mumbai attack convict Ajmal Kasab on November 21, 2012 Guru’s execution was kept under wraps in a top secret operation.

The family of Guru residing in Sopore in north Kashmir was informed about the decision of the government that his mercy petition has been rejected.

The body of Guru, who has been in the death row for over 10 years, is likely to be buried in Tihar Jail itself as it was done in the case of Kasab who was buried in Pune’s Yerwada jail soon after his execution.

Curfew was imposed in the Kashmir Valley in the wee hours of Saturday. Jammu and Kashmir Minister Omar Abdullah, DGP Ashok Prasad and other senior officers flew from Jammu to Srinagar early this morning to keep a close watch on the law and order situation.

Pro-Pakistan separatist groups have given a call for a three-day shut down in the Valley.

Guru was convicted on charges conspiracy in the December 2001 attack on Parliament.

On December 13, 2001, five heavily-armed gunmen stormed the Parliament complex and opened indiscriminate fire, killing nine persons.

They included five Delhi Police personnel, a woman Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) official, two Parliament watch and ward staff and a gardener.

A journalist, who was injured, died later. All five terrorists were shot dead.

  9. 30 kg RDX carried by terrorists who attacked Parliament House Dec 13, 2001, was enough to destroy the entire building, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Najma Heptulla said Saturday.

She was the deputy chairperson of the Rajya Sabha when the attack took place.

Her comments came after Afzal Guru, the main conspirator who was on a death row over the 2001 attack, was executed in the Tihar Jail here Saturday morning.

"There was 30 kg of RDX (explosives) in the their car...It would have been enough to destroy the entire building," Heptulla, who was in her office Dec 13, 2001, told Times Now news channel.

"I was not worried about myself...I saw my personal security officer Yadav shot dead at gate number 11 on CCTV," Heptulla said while recalling the events of that fateful day.

Expressing the hope that families of those killed in the attack, including security staff, would be satisfied with Afzal Guru's hanging, she said the government should act strongly for safety of ordinary people than focus on just VIPs.

My name is Mrs. Vasudha Simha , B.Sc., (Mathematics),M.Ed., I work when there are opportunities (as my husband is in a transferable job). I give public talks over issues related to national interest and integration. I also write to forums in the interest of our nation.
I'am interested in joining as the Digital Volunteer for Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. I need clarification of the last point in terms and conditions., which says "The Digital Volunteer shall not advertise or in any manner whatsoever use the name, or any abbreviation of the name, emblem or official seal of Ministry of I&B or Government of India". My doubt is when i give the information which you have asked me to pass on to some one , and i am asked from where and how do i get/know the particular information, in that case how am i protecting the said clause. can you please further explain.

  35. Sir
In the era of Good Governance & e Governance initiatives this is a very welcome step as expressed by all the above.
I myself signed up recently. My Digital Volunteer Registration no. is 271002.

There are certain suggestions I would Like to share.

    ReplyDelete
  36. For Starters,
Those who love to work for the country would very well do so with no incentive required to lure them to do so.And such people neither have any materialistic expectations. I myself started a site a http://johnspace.in/ where I generally try to discuss all socio-economically relevant issues in India.
But then I went ahead and registered as a digital volunteer, since I felt ,there is nothing wrong in getting recognized for the work, which you have already been doing.
So, lets face it, incentives do give a little extra push.
And the same is expressed by the site administrator. You have told that active members would be issued certificates. But how will you exactly get to know who is active and who's not.Because we are simply issued a number. The Blog posts we make are not tracked by this Id number.
So my first suggestion would be to use some kind of a system "Wherein the posts made by bloggers are tracked in reference to the Id"...This can be achieved by having a facility to sign up into InB site via Id number, and then bloggers can log in here and give a link to their blogpost which is relevant to India and Related issues.
Such a system is already in place at indiblogger.in
Here as suggested earlier, people would give links to relevant blog-posts. These can be voted on by other users.
Therefore we will have a ranking system.
So at the end of the day we know that Digital Volunteer No. So & So is at this rank....
Well this is the first solution, not very difficult to implement...I am sure InB can easily spare a WebDomain for this purpose...Though catchy domains like BLOG FOR INDIA or INDIAN BLOGGER have been taken.
But if this seems a tough job (Being a government servant myself, I understand how sometimes even a small initiative might take long time). There is a easy alternative.
Instead of starting a site and doing the tough job. I&B could organize some kind of blog competition on already existing platforms.
In this regard I have already initiated inquiries, and I believe most of the existing platforms wont even charge.Because this is a government endeavor to make change.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Then,
I believe mere Re-Blogging or Re-Tweet is going to do no much good.
Because all that material is already available on the net. And as per google Panda logic etc..We very well know that copied or re-blogged content never shows up on a google search.
Moreover, a person who wants info will get it himself. And the one who wants to be ignorant will not take the effort to read a post even if it appears on his facebook wall or twitter handle.
The only affect of Re-Blogging & Re-Tweeting will be lots of MB of download and upload, simply waste of resource.
The PIB is a awesome source of knowledge. But the problem is people don't feel like going through it because these are bland black & white ,To The Point pages..
People wan't some juicy item on their read list.
    So usually my strategy is,
I take fodder material from PIB.nic.in & mix it with some reflections of my own and add pictures and stuff, which attracts readers. But even while doing so, I never compromise on being Value-Neutral, unbiased and apolitical.
So this is the second suggestion, reward bloggers who come up with innovative articles rather than those who mere click on the re-blog button.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Finally,
There is a very strange phobia in the blogging community. Especially the new bloggers go crazy about displaying some Banners & Logos on their home pages..Commonly these are called as Widgets..Since people display these widgets voluntarily, its a good way to spread the word automatically.
But as I read in the earlier moderators comment, Bloggers cant use the InB ministry logos etc.
(Again, being a central government employee, I understand the gravity of such an issue, its a very serious issue)
    Here again there are alternatives.
We cant use the InB official name etc.
But we can develop a LOGO/BANNER/WIDGET especially for the DIGITAL VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME. It could be a catchy emblem, with a nationalistic appeal.
    So this solves another problem.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I would like to tell the Administrator that, I am not here just to sermon and give solutions..
I am readily available even for the follow up on the above mentioned 3 solutions...

As told earlier I have already started inquiring with websites where we could have blogger contest.
And regarding the widget also, I have certain designer friends who could help out.

Please Make this endurance gets publicized and implemented well.
This could become a very important platform to share the good a government does(Irrelevant of which party is in rule)
For those numskulls, who run circus shows on news this could be a good reply.

Instead of hollow, haughty, nonsensical debates shown on Private news channels, which don't educate people, this platform could serve very useful.

As I had suggested I have done a simple paint job to generate a WIDGET, I will share the same here.

Also, I would like to know from the administrator if it is fine to use it as a Widget for this programme.

  43. nice move by the ib minister & will sensitize youth towards the various programs & schemes of government & they can help the government in ensuring good governance however i would like to bring into notice for information & broadcasting ministry that in recent two to three months the prices of internet tarrif specially for mobile users & smart phone users increased by more than 50-60% which is again a reason for youths unaffordability for such a higher rates so i ould like to advice administrators to look into matter & take necessary steps to control the internet tariff so that it can be ithin the range of a common people not like a status symbol as this is the most vital component for economic as well as technological growth of the country.for example in USA the internet facility is so much cheap that everyone in USA can afford the internet not like India where people may buy the smart phone but due to very high internet charge don't use the internet tariff in that & it is a harsh reality for Indians
so in that limelight i would like to advice to have a check on the telecom service providers so that no Indian debarred from such services due to unaffordability

  45. Hello Sir/Madam,

It's good effort & initiative towards making our people aware of their own affairs. Thank you for it.
It would be much more better, if various developmental schemes, policies & programmes (of Govt. of India and State governments) are included. Also Foreign policies of India, it's relationship with other countries and International agencies (like UN, ASEAN, IMF, WB, WTO etc).
It would be much more empowering platform if the general information about various necessary acts, like Compulsory education act, Right to Service, women and child empowerment act, environment protection act, minority affairs, etc.
Also can get a good support for proposed Goods & Service Tax and DTC from people through this platform, so that people can act as pressure groups to their respective state governments.

Thanks a lot for giving us an opportunity to become a responsible citizens of India.

    Thank you

  58. Hi.
    I am aakash.
i have just seen this website this is very innovative work by our goverment.i am very happy if i would be the part of this digital volunteer programme. This would give me very different felling if i would be able to remove corruption from its root.Corruption is biggest enemy of our country india. it can not be compared to even britisher who have looted our whole country hindustan because in this we can not differentiate that some specific person is indian our foreigner. from basic to high almost all our corrupted.in today scenario it is very difficult for that person who is not corrupted because there is so much pressure from their top chairperson.

I have just entered in the age of 18.as we all know at this stage we are mature and need proof of this (license, pan card etc).so when i had gone to their respective departments their are so much difficulties which common person have to face & all difficulties itself remove if we give some bribe to them.so sometimes i also feel that somewhere we are giving enhacement to corruption after losing our confidence.
so now time to join hands & let throw the corruption FROM OUR COUNTRY to BERMUDA TRIANGLE.
